In the South East of the island, within the Famugusta area, one hour driving from Larnaca Airport, is Paralimni and Protaras. Protaras is the tourist resort of Paralimni. Protaras has sandy and golden beaches and it is also famous for its night life. You can spot poetic scenes everywhere, and you can choose between lounging at one of its luxurious hotels with their swimming pools and bars or relaxing to a lonely beach for a picnic or a sunbath.
Typical Cypriot hospitality is very much in evidence here. Local residents still practice their age-old customs, eager to demonstrate the traditional farming techniques that have lasted for generations. The flowery month of May, they celebrate the flower festival known as the “Anthestiria”, a gala procession of flower-decked floats climaxing with a spectacular flower show. The festival of Kataklysmos (Whitsuntide or flood) marks the end of May with songs, dances and water games on the beaches of Protaras. In late June, music, dance and theatrical performances thrive at the International Arts Festival with a new program every day. Protaras offers a wide range of hotel accommodations; from small, family oriented hotels to luxurious ones, hotel apartments and complexes.
